She's been singing since she was a little girl. She's deep and emotional and full of vibrant energy and belts out her voice like no one else. You'll feel the music channel from her Soul to you!

Little Ms. bundle of energy, Laurie Slater!
That’s the best description if you’ve never met her. Laurie has carried a passion for music her entire life. She remembers sitting at the piano as a little girl, singing old country songs with her grandparents, or gathering around the fire with one of her many uncles who played guitar, fiddle, harmonica, or spoons. There was always music — it filled her world with joy, connection, and wonder.
She sang in the school choir, loved to act and perform, and was always sparkling on stage. At home, she was surrounded by the sounds of Johnny Cash, June Carter, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, The Beach Boys, Elvis, and so many more.
Her teen years brought new inspirations — Suzi Quatro, Chrissie Hynde, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Yes, Genesis, and, of course, her lifelong icons Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.
Laurie Slater is a dynamic vocalist whose career spans more than three decades of live performance, from powerhouse rock and country stages to intimate rooms. Her voice defies genre — equally at home delivering the raw soul of Etta James or Eva Cassidy or Wynonna Judd, the powerhouse ballads of Celine Dion and Adele, the rock grit of Pat Benatar, the warmth of Linda Ronstadt, and the high-energy fire of Tina Turner.
Drawing on influences across rock, blues, soul, pop, country, and folk, Laurie’s performances celebrate the golden eras of music while infusing each song with her signature authenticity and emotional depth.
Known for her magnetic stage presence and vocal versatility, Laurie embodies the fearless power and passion of icons like Pink, Cher, and Lady Gaga — effortlessly shifting from soulful intimacy to full-throttle rock or pop energy. She has fronted bands, led tributes, and shared her artistry through projects like The Stevie Project, her heartfelt homage to Stevie Nicks.
Whether interpreting a timeless classic or reimagining a modern hit, Laurie’s voice carries a truth and spirit that resonate deeply with audiences of every generation. She is also a songwriter and lyricist, often saying with a wink, “It’s never too late — this might just be the year I release some of my original songs!”

In the early 90's being prompted by family and friends she entered a vocal competition (St. Albert Legion's StarMakers), and she won first place! (she sang Juice Newton's Break it to me Gently). She went on to the finals (for all the Legions in Alberta) and she placed in the top 3 in the finale' (called CISN Country's CFR Vocal Spotlight) '94. She took 2nd place at the finals (held at Northlands Coliseum! That's her on center stage singing "Rock Bottom" but Wynonna Judd!) Winning 2nd provided her the opportunity to record a vocal demo with CISN radio. She sang "Walkin' After Midnight/Patsy Cline, and Jones on the Jukebox/BeckyHobbs, and Have Mercy/Wynonna".

Her very first band was called Little Rock in 1993 and was named after Reba MacIntyre! For two years they rehearsed religiously and played hall parties and weddings and festivals in and around St. Albert and Villeneuve and Wabamun with a mix of country/rock, and had a lot of fun with that! Pictured Laurie/LP Slater, Mark Koreman (Bass), Wayne Bellerose (Lead Guitar), Ron Machuk (hiding on the Drums), and Rory Sallis (Guitar) not in pic.

Next came The LP Slater Band, which was more serious and considered her first professional band! Her married name at the time was Laurie Perrott, and her Mom's Mom's last name was Slater, and so she called the band LP Slater and it stuck :)
Pctured, LP Slater with L to R Randy Busby (Drums/Vocals), Wayne Bellerose (Guitar/Vocals), Del Cox (Bass/Vocals) (RIP Randy, and Wayne, and thank you for the music! See you on the other side! xo ) Del Cox on the right is still playing with the band Trick Ryder out of Edmonton!

Next came life on the road and a new LP Slater band : )
LP Slater with L to R Dion Eastcoast (Drums/Vocals), Randy Rink (Guitar), Roger Arsenault (Bass/Vocals) - They played all over Alberta! Drummers sometimes included Christopher Bowden! Dale Wiens! Tony Smith! Laurie got to play with some of the best musicians! (RIP Roger! thank you for the music and our friendship! xo ) The LP Slater band photo was up on that wall of fame behind me, and sadly"The Oil Can" Fort MAc has since burned and gone. So many incredible bands played there! I was honoured to play there multiple multiple times!

In 1996 Laurie was introduced to the world of Tribute acts! An agent convinced her that she could sing with the best of them! and before she knew it through the late 90's and early 00's Laurie had the opportunity to perform all over Canada and in many different roles including her work with Legends in Concerts and Legends of Rock and Roll, receiving numerous accolades and standing ovations in her tribute performances to Patsy Cline, Tanya Tucker, Lorrie Morgan, Tammy Wynette, Madonna, and Marilyn Monroe. She was nicknamed "The Canadian Chameleon" because she has a knack to not only look the part but to transform her voice to sound just like the artist she portrays! She had her own show called "The Great Impersonators Show" which she got to perform for the Canadian Forces twice! She was the opening act for Rock and Roll Legend Bobby Curtola's 1998 cross Canads Stand by Me Tour with her tribute to the Ladies of the 50's; She also performed places like Stage West Dinner Theatre Calgary, and the Deerhurst Resort in her hometown of Huntsville, Muskoka Ontario, where Shania Twain performed for years.

On tour with Bobby Curtola! and a stellar 26 member cast and crew! That's Henri Brown of HB Concept in the red! and Elvis's cousin Donna Presley in the white! Johnny Vallis, Mike Curtola, Danny Desentis, Jonathan Brown (Tik Tak) and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone! It was a 26 member cast and crew!

Laurie played the club circuit for a decade '95-2005! The LP Slater band played all the big honkytonks and night clubs all over Alberta and Saskatchewan. She was surrounded by talent! Thank God for all the players she learned from and had the honour to play with! It was hot times for bands back then and with lots of great gigs! A few honoraable mentions - Dale Wiens! Harvey Cunningham! Billy Boissenault! Derek Littlejohn, Rob Williams, Rob Anderson, Stormin Norman Burgess! Monty Paul! Eddie Atteo, Bruce Ball, Doc Anderson, Carla Rugg, Terry Kole, and more!

Giggin' at The Beverly Crest (now that's history!) Wayne Bellerose, Randy Busby, Del Cox : ) maybe '98?
In 2000 Laurie was featured on a duet with singer/songwriter Henri Ferguson on a song called Lately my Love on his CD called Missing the Boat - produced by Barry Sherwood, and featuring Ray Titiryn on Saxophone, and which Internet critics said could have been a chart hit with LP's vocals! Click on the pic to open the song (Lately my Love) on Spotify - with Henri Ferguson : )

In 2009 Laurie and drummer friend Ross Cable, founded Edmonton's corporate party band Capital Newz, and they ended up playing some of Edmonton's best gigs at the time! 2010-2012

In 2014 Laurie was invited as a guest vocalist to perform at Festival Place in Sherwood Park with the late Al Quilley's Time Warp project. It was such a blast and a great experience for all of us! Such a great memory of Al Quilley's incredible talent and how he turned his visions into reality. (RIP Al)

In the Zone xo

A new promo photo came from that gig! There is such a story to this photo...

From 2014 to 2016 Laurie had a fun hobby band called Lightwalker and they had a ton of fun rehearsing religiously, but didn't do a lot of gigs. They did record a few of Laurie's originals though!

From 2017 to 2022 Laurie had a blast performing a tribute to the Queen of Rock and Roll Stevie Nicks with Mac Daddy the Fleetwood Mac experience.

Mac Daddy performed in many sold out theaters and with lots of standing ovations! They met a ton of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham and Christie and John McVie Fans! and had a ton of fun doing it!
